SUCCESS STORY

Case Study: Staying Ahead – Embracing Apprenticeships, cross-media marketing and adapting to technology

5 May 2016

Description:

Local business i2training has received much valued support from Velocity, including one to one support with Business Adviser Emmanuelle Clément, invitations to free business workshops and personal introductions to valuable contacts.

Pam Parker, talks about its ambitions for growth and how Velocity has helped it with recruitment and sourcing new suppliers. “A skilled and enthusiastic workforce is fundamental to the success of any business. In order to achieve this we rely on apprenticeships to nurture new talent, to shape our workforce and to adapt to emerging opportunities and new technologies.”

At i2training, we provide a variety of on-site and external health and safety courses throughout the UK. Apprenticeships mean we benefit from motivated staff, who bring with them newly-acquired, forward-thinking skills and ideas. The business has been recruiting and developing two sales apprentices whose roles focus on generating and qualifying leads, building rapport with customers, negotiating and closing sales.

With business administration and digital support needs, we decided to employ a third apprentice through 3AAA, a local training provider who Emmanuelle put us in touch with. Our new apprentice joined the team before Christmas.

Another challenge for us was to define how best to communicate with our customers. Emmanuelle introduced us to Nutshell Creative, a local specialist who offers a cross-media platform (SMS, email, direct mail, mobile apps and personalised URLs) to SMEs. We met with Lucy Swanston and we are now developing a campaign that will create new opportunities to improve our customers’ experience.

As i2 Training is an innovative provider of training and services with over 80 years staff experience in the training industry, we understand that customers need to be active, inspired and involved in order to learn deeply. As such we would like to promote dynamic communication through interactive learning. Emmanuelle has been liaising on our behalf with the Open University who may be able to help us in moving our business online through their learning experiences’ design process and we are interested in applying for a Velocity grant to support the project.”
